Imagine … taking a train from Brantford to Goderich … or from Glencoe to Strathroy … or from Palmerston to Elora … or, well, to just about anywhere (our rail network in 1901).

Prior to automobiles, this makes sense. Once vehicles came along en masse, tracks gave way to roads and highways. In the future, if another revolutionary means of travel comes along, our present day roads will seem as chaotic as this rail map.

The village I live in (SE of Fergus) was a bustling hub when the train went through here. Shops, post office, hotel. Now it’s an intersection with three street lamps lol.

We've got a whole museum inside the old Grand Trunk station dedicated to this in Palmerston! Worth a Saturday visit in the summer while the farmers market is going on.
