As a Canadian I have already had my Thanksgiving Dinner. In October. . We have turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green peas, turnips or squash, or sweet potatoes etc. Then folks add their own favourite things. Sometimes we serve ham. Thanksgiving is a real holiday here in Canada. Most of us get paid.

Here’s the secret; it’s the same thing. I’ve grown up a dual US/Canadian citizen and we’ve always celebrated ‘2nd Thanksgiving’. It’s a fabulous excuse to have a festive spread every month towards the end of the year. Canadian Thanksgiving is a little less charged emotionally than the US holiday, but Black Friday sales up here only started in the 2010s. It wasn’t really a thing before that.
