They were literally fighting for their homeland against an empire??? If that doesn’t put the maccabees in the place of the oppressed in that situation I don’t know what will. Yall will do anything to make sure people know you’re not “one of the bad Jewish people” to the point of denying the religion, and that’s just sad.
