We don’t even really need to raise taxes. The amount of money that the government spent on healthcare in 2023—Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, ACA subsidies, insurance for government workers, Tricare, etc—is somewhere north of $1.9 trillion. US population is 335 million. That’s about $5671 per capita. That’s more than Japan and Italy spend per person for universal healthcare, JUST to give healthcare to SOME Americans who often STILL also need to pay a bunch out of pocket for stuff.
