We are staying in Ramsgate with friends. We have spent time in Putney as well in the past. I have more friends here than I do in America

I am from America, but make my home in England. I have found that while the Brits can come off as a bit more reserved, and they definitely don’t do small talk bit as much as many Americans do, so the conversations tend to be a bit more “substantive” right off the bat. What this has lead to for me over the years is much deeper connections than I have experienced stateside. Also a big part of it all is understanding the sense of humour!!! If you can have a good banter you are good 😁

Omg yes, English people are the best! 🤍 i know people who complained about the locals saying they are reserved and cold or rude, but I’ve been to England countless times and never experienced anything like that. Honestly I think in England you get as good as you give✨😁 When I was in America, the people were also nice but the conversation was very pointless 😅 i felt like it was lacking some actual listening apart from the general repetition of phrases 😬 But maybe that’s just the European in me 🤷🏼‍♀️

It's actually amazing how vastly different our experiences can be. Lived here for 7 years total, and I often find myself counting the number arbitrary social engagements I have in a period (say 2 months) given the unlikelihood. A high sense of seemingly automated conversations, rarely going beyond the trivial (mostly weather complaints), truly a desolate deja vu feel in my recollection. I found socialising in a general sense of human connection much more prevalent in south of Europe or the US.
