Buy her a bowling ball with your name on it.

You don’t. You thank her, tell her that you love them and then donate them a few weeks later. Anything else is ungrateful and hurtful.

You buy her groceries, gift cards, top up any pre pays she has. Then at least you'll be slightly less worried about her fixed income.

My mom wasn’t the best at picking out presents and dad just didn’t. Mom just put his name along with hers. They died last year. This is my second Christmas without them and I would do anything for a ceramic covered pot that could double as a chamber pot. Or the collection of useless dollar store junk. Or the copy of a painting ( poorly done) that a relative did. Or one of the many weird gifts she would give. They all were given with love and the memories make me laugh.

I’m in a Facebook group, “buy nothing/ sell nothing” (for my specific city). It’s an opportunity to gift a stranger something you don’t need that someone else might want or need.
