I experienced this first hand when I received a cancer diagnosis…family, friends, both failed me…some thinking buying me a cancer tote or bracelet was the same as showing up for me…ended up doing much of my long treatment alone…many people want to think they are a good, supportive person and will keep their conscience clear by doing a single gesture; very few actually are.
