I don’t know why I thought The Verge’s paywall wouldn’t affect me much. It’s pretty much unusable without a subscription. When it comes to prioritising what subscriptions to pay for, tech news is unfortunately very low on my list.

Whatever they're using on the backend to determine you've read too much for free and now have to pay is a bit wonky. It's also very unclear how often they reset that for the individual user. It's been reset at least twice for me, with no real obvious correlation to a specific length of time that I've noticed. It's probably not the approach I'd have taken, but Wired has been doing it for years (a site I coincidentally never visit any longer), and is still in business, so who knows.

I've been a verge reader from the very start. But stopped as soon as the paywall came up. It's not just that it's a paywall, it that you have no idea when I will be applied. Never ever have I've seen such an infuriating use of a paywall.
