Landing a FAANG software engineering job is the most underrated wealth-building strategy accessible to the average person. In what other industry can someone make $200k/yr straight out of college, $400k/yr by year 3, and possibly $600k+, all without years of ultra-specialized education where you graduate in your 30s? I don't have a computer science degree. I learned almost everything on the job. But I will be able to retire in my 30s and get to live lavishly in my 20s, all thanks to SWE.

This doesn't mean landing a big tech job is easy. It's far from it. But the baseline education requirements, the technical knowledge, and the internships are available to almost any American who has the time to study and pursue these opportunities. And that's a lot more accessible than other high-paying careers that require elite pedigree and graduate degrees.

Before the era of big tech, investment banking, and consulting firms were the only ways to gain such huge wealth. However, the gate only opens for those who got their degrees from the Ivy League, and the opportunities are also limited. Agree with you, landing a job in the big tech is the most accessible way to accelerate your wealth quickly.

Bruh your statement’s are very misleading and individualized based on multiple posts. This is coming from someone in FAANG and many friends who are principal/manager’s of SWE at FAANG w MS in CS from top 3 schools between the ages of 26-35, Individual situations are admirable but don’t mislead for follows.

There are definitely downsides, but most 9-5ers get blinded by the high salary. Like brutal taxes and being stuck in high-cost living areas. Before I dropped out of college, I was making $200K+ net profit, and aside from that retiring by 30 isn’t happening in the Bay Area lol. Plus, these jobs are either slowly dying or require super specialized skills. This feels like old news, you’re 27 and giving outdated tips to new younger gen or at least to the average person it’s not obtainable anymore

I still think you make more on avg doing finance/Wall Street, plus it’s far easier work intellectually than SWE
