I would gladly choose a box of pizza anytime over mandatory attendance to an event where I would be obliged to "perform" or else be villainized by my workmates as "not a teamplayer" and then be served a memorandum afterwards should I choose not to attend. Doesn't matter if it's free because my time isn't. So long as I'm being paid what I am rightly owed, the company's income isn't any of my business.
