Catholics and several denominations of Protestantism actually agree on this, at least in theory. Nobody earns their salvation; therefore, salvation truly comes from grace and not works. However, faith is more than simply believing in the historical fact of Christ’s death and resurrection; a living faith involves following His commandments to the best of our ability. Scripture tells us repeatedly, especially in books authored by John, that if we love God, we will follow His commandments.

A man is justified by works in front of other men, not God. Faith is completed by works, as an index of true faith. Works is a result of good faith, we are saved by faith, not by any good works. Even James said earlier that failing at one point makes you guilty of the entire law. I believe every word in James.
