So my thread blew up. Didn’t expect that. Didn’t really expect to be called controlling either. This is my first child and my desire is to protect. Maybe that’s a part of it; growing up, everyone had “normal” grandparents names. There were no Honeys or Lovelys. It was grandma and oma and the like. She was mad I didn’t pick her as godmother. I am this child’s mother. I will protect her with everything I have. Somehow what her grandmother is called is apart of protecting her.

I wouldn’t want my kids calling a grandparent pussycat or anything like that, could they not just call her by name or a regular name she chooses?

Mom has watched my son during the day since I started back to work. He will either refer to her as Nana(now that his speech is coming through) or MaNa (when vocalization was much more common that verbalization. Other grandkids may follow what the older ones call a grandparent but they may not
