So it’s probably not a good sign when the nurse can’t find a vein to do a blood test and says come back tomorrow 🫠

I found drinking a litre of water beforehand helps.

Come back tomorrow? Does that mean you have no viens left or does the nurse have Christmas shopping to do? I always leave blood tests with 3-5 plasters 😪

I’ve had that happen once. It was a really inexperienced nurse on duty and she didn’t want to torture me, because the experienced nurse wasn’t there that day. It’s likely not your fault, just someone inexperienced with draws. I’m a horrifically hard stick and I have to get blood drawn every 2 weeks. It’s always a struggle, even with hydration! But the hydration does help. Drink tons of water!

I had an unsuccessful blood test Thursday morning (six attempts between three phlebotomists) Went back this afternoon after making sure I was definitely hydrated, and she got it on the first go.

Drink a ton of water a day or 2 before & wrap your arm in a warm towel or blanket. Works every time! Good luck! 🍀

Insist they use an xray machine that is now available in almost all hospital labs to look for the best veins. Or….ask for an experienced phlebotomist! Good luck. I hate blood draws!

Ive had this experience for the last 20 years (really 30 years, but 20 years as an adult). Promise you it happens to some of us and it always sucks. All i van say is find a really great pathologist, know what works for you and ALWAYS advocate for yourself.
