my husband needs urgent back surgery, still a 2-4 month wait. for non urgent cases it’s 3 years. (canada)

the reason for this is so much more complex. there only are 20k neurologists in the US. Since Covid began, the avg wait to see a neurologist is 4-6mo (& in some regions longer; it used to be 2-4mo) bc there are so many new neurological patients than neurologists to treat them. & it takes years to train new neurologists (which isn't a wildly popular medical field) Yes, there are administrative roadblocks, but if we want to reduce neurological wait times, we need to look at the full picture

This is strange? I was able to get my dog a neurologist appointment a week after it was suggested to me and he wasn’t in a medical emergency? Did they give you any reasons it would take so long?

The wait times are longer for many things with universal healthcare. Wait times in the US depend on location.

My first response to this was, ”Thriend, you must be in trouble because that’s FAST.”

It’s not a symptom of universal healthcare, it’s a symptom of undermanned healthcare facilities.
