I say happy holidays specifically to piss off this type so I can be the one that makes them FAFO.

A woman once said merry christmas to me, so i smiled brightly and said "Thanks! And Happy holidays to you as well!" She then frowned at me and said "WE say MERRY CHRISTMAS here!" So i smiled again just as brightly said, "That's nice! I say Happy Holidays! Have a nice day!"

Wouldn't Have Been Able To Help Myself. Id Have Said Something Directly To Him, Along The Lines Of "HEY! YOU Say Merry Christmas. We Can Say Whatever The Hell We Want. Now Pipe Down, Before I Mail You To Florida."

I was once told that if I wish someone a Merry Christmas and they don't celebrate it that I should be okay with them saying their greetings back to me. So if I say "Merry Christmas" and they respond with "Happy hanukkah". I would be perfectly okay with that. I am not sure why everyone gets so offended. It is a time to celebrate and rejoice in love.

My grandma was once told “You mean Merry Christmas.” And she responded, “Oh, is Christmas not a holiday anymore? Great! Can’t wait to get mail.”

I used to have a manager who got super annoyed if I told people to “have a good one” instead of “have a good day”. I didn’t see a huge difference but I’ll tell you what, she hasn’t been my manager for like 13 years now & my pettiness still makes me say “have a good one” every day, lol. I did also have customers at that job who’d get mad about “happy holidays” & I’d always point out that I wasn’t sure if I’d see them before New Year’s so I was just covering both. So silly.

Funny how it’s only a certain group that celebrates Christmas that gets offended by “Happy holidays!” Meanwhile, I have never experienced someone who does not celebrate Christmas - or who even doesn’t celebrate anything - taking offense to it. If someone wishes you a happy anything, even if you don’t celebrate whatever it is, the wish is spoken with the intent to share the happiness and joy of the season. Just accept it in the spirit it is offered and say “Thanks! You, too!”

When people have said this to me, I've told them I'm Jewish and celebrating Hanukkah, but hope they have a good Christmas. Made their faces pucker when they are forced to reckon with there is more than one holiday this time of year. Like seriously, they think THEY are oppressed when every store is playing Christmas music, all of the ads are themed around Christmas, and other religions maybe get a half an isle in the back corner of target for their holidays.
