Workers installed a white tarped tent on the San Francisco Bay bridge to perform in-depth inspection of 1000s of steel wires that comprise each cable.
It’s the first time the insides of the cables have been systematically inspected since the bridge opened in 1936. The $21.6 million investigation started last month and is expected to conclude in June of 2025. The project is funded with toll dollars.
