Workers installed a white tarped tent on the San Francisco Bay bridge to perform in-depth inspection of 1000s of steel wires that comprise each cable. It’s the first time the insides of the cables have been systematically inspected since the bridge opened in 1936. The $21.6 million investigation started last month and is expected to conclude in June of 2025. The project is funded with toll dollars.

To everyone bitching. Use your brains if you have any. The tent probably houses special scanning equipment that inches along the cables doing some kind of ultra sound inspection. It’s not just a tent. Why are you so stupid?

I love trump but he just proposed a deal to buy Greenland…a fuckin country…and yet we paying 22 mil to inspect a few feet. I feel like the USA is speed running into the second world so others can get a taste of the first (not including Greenland) (also my unsolicited opinion)

The amount of sheer arrogance and stupidity on display in these comments is a mark of shame on our society. Complex things need complex and costly repair to stay working right. It also requires skilled workers with fancy gear and smarts to know how to do the job right. 21 million to make sure the bridge is safe is chump change compared to the BILLIONS of dollars lost if it falls apart.
