If we say we are from PG county the next thing people ask is where is that. Once we say Maryland they start talking about Baltimore. So saying DC keeps the conversation short

That's like saying begin from Newark New Jersey and saying your from New York city

If I'm speaking to someone from another state or country it's easier to use DC as a reference since everyone knows where it is. I used to live in Montgomery county. I would always say I lived in Maryland, near DC.

Maybe..but for years, PG county was called Ward 9 because of the proximity to DC and the huge number of people living in PG that were from DC.. some of us only had to walk 40 steps to be in the District.. I don’t know much about Baltimore, so I can’t speak to the equivalency..

I’m from PG but live in TX now, so when ppl ask I just say DC area then explain specifics if they are familiar

Not true. Because of gentrification, most black people from dc have been pushed out to PG county over the past 10 years in an effort to make dc white and high income. The original community , real DC people are mostly in PG these days..
