Gender is a category of an expression of personhood- nothing more, nothing less. We as a society attached it to our sexes for some reason but that’s not inherent. Females don’t have to be “women” and males don’t have to be “men”. You can absolutely change elements of your sex to better fit your true specific gender because our world does connect them to sex, but you also don’t have to. And gender has unlimited expressions, there’s simply 2 *socially* created ones that align with sex.
