Whenever I see someone stop their dog from sniffing on a walk my heart breaks a little.

My dog will sniff a spot for 30 minutes if I let her. We walk five to ten steps, stop and sniff, I have to pull her away, repeat. It's kind of frustrating sometimes (she's not treat driven so I can't bribe her).

My heart is broken constantly. I back on to a park with a walking path close by. I see this all the time. On the outside of nearby city park garbage bins I put up posters of a dog’s nose and explained why it’s so important to let them sniff but the city took them down. Fm. But it’s great fun for me to see my dogs enjoy themselves on a walk. Those leash puller types don’t experience this joy.

We live in Chicago. My little hound always finds something to eat.

Most of the time they can sniff, but sometimes the smell something and then pick it up to eat and I have to wrestle out of their mouth!

One hundred percent! It’s like they need to rush the walk for themselves and deny thier dogs the freedom to just be. If you can’t let them loose for whatever reason still allow them to stop when and where to sniff… it’s their only pastime whereas we humans have everything else and freedom to our hearts content. Drives me batty when I see dogs being pulled away to quickly walk…. 💔

There are times for sniffing and there are times for walking. Sometimes we walk to a location that is for her and she will get to run and sniff and spend time there. But the walk to the location is not for stopping and sniffing. That’s a time to heel. Save your heartbreak for dogs in much worse circumstances

I have a very stubborn 12yo basset hound mix. If I let her sniff to her hearts content I’d still be outside 12 hours later. There’s a point I gotta say let’s GO!!!

There’s a fine line between sniffing and eating something random off the ground though. A lot of times a sniff turns into a gobble 😆

It’s their walk, they can sniff every blade of grass, every grain of sand, and every lampost if they want!
