I mean it is none of your business… do the qualifications match what you need or not?

People are fed up with hiring practices, that have nothing to do, with the skills needed to perform a job.

Asking about job gaps after March 2020 is rude and insensitive. People been fighting for their lives these last few years.

Idk I understand why the question was asked. I thought that was a standard question for Interviews. It lets you know if they were unemployed for a bad reason or if it was actually valid.

So if he made up an answer to placate you it wouldn’t have mattered, but because he chose not to share personal information, instead of… lie, like you suggest by saying he could “pick any reason” in another post, and you’re mad at the dude? lol if it doesn’t matter what the answer is, you’re just being nosey and not respecting his wishes to not share, like you asked in your initial question “do you mind sharing”.. clearly, he minded.

How is it rude? It is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Whether they needed a medical leave or therapy, or just wanted a break. Who are you that they should account for that to you? The only thing relevant to you is their work history, skills, and suitability for the given role. Are you openly admitting you refuse to hire people on the basis they express personal boundaries?

As an employer, we do need to know why you had a gap in employment. Were you taking care of a sick family member and we need some leniency in your new position? Were you tired of working and now I'll need to plan for you leaving unexpectedly? Did your home life change (other persons income increased allowing you to be home) and now you NEED a job? Did you decide to get a job because you were bored (and maybe part time would be better suited)? We're paying workers comp, taxes, vacation... $$$
