My musical taste is mainly classic rock, but my favorite band is Coldplay because I grew up listening to them and it feels like home. You never know what personal ties are attached to the band/song, so assuming that someone saying their favorite song by a specific band is the one that’s most popular really tells you nothing about their knowledge of said band. Maybe next time try asking why? You might get a nice story behind it.

But literally tied with those has always been Mr. Brightside. If I tell my Alexa "I'm home" she turns on the lights and plays it. Since no one I know likes The Killers, I often just say I love Mr. Brightside.
