There seems to be a sense of entitlement with music artists - an expectation that they should be successful just bc they work hard. In the old days of record label gatekeeping, very few made it to 1st base. Those that did often ran to 2nd and 3rd. But “1st base” was still an exclusive distribution club. Not anymore. Today, millions are sitting on first base, unable to get to 2nd. Artists often dislike streaming, when the fact is streaming is the reason they “hit a single” in the first place.
