My mom just asked me on the phone why I never talk to her anymore, and the best answer I could come up with on the fly without laying into her and being a complete asshole was, "I don't really want to talk about that at the moment." When she feigned ignorance (i.e. "I just don't understand why politics makes you not want to talk to me"), I responded, "This has nothing to do with politics, but again, I'm not willing to have this conversation with your right now."
