Songwriters…. How do you go about applying different structures to your songs? I quite often end up in a frustrating and predictable verse / chorus / verse / chorus / middle 8 / chorus habit and then get uninspired.

intro/verse/pre/chorus is always a start for me, but I like modulation after that. A REALLY catchy section should always have a callback. A thematic motif! Tempo changes or mode/key modulation for a bridge is also a favorite of mine. Even better if it sounds like it could be it’s own song. Especially effective if this section can double as a short intro.
