No. Also some of the country’s best doctors are here, a bonus for older folks. Also great public transportation options. Winters though are hard for everyone. But if you have $$ you’ll be fine.

If you work out your housing situation NYC is amazing for seniors! Public transportation - half price and goes everywhere - very walkable and fabulous health care. Oh and the museums, galleries and universities are just a tiny part of the culture/rec options. Recommend looking At Queens and maybe The Bronx for neighboods.

I appreciate the comments about the affordability of other boroughs, but I assume it is Manhattan that you love. Look at Streeteasy at rentals. And remember that you do not need a car, car insurance or to pay for maintenance. Highly recommend retirement in Manhattan. Compromise on living space and go for neighborhood/street.

Nope! This city has everything you need within walking distance and great services for seniors. My building has lots of retired folks and they are always out and about doing things. Wish I could keep up! 😄

It's a great place to live as an older person. I grew up here and I'm not going anywhere. Washington Heights/Inwood is still affordable in Manhattan and the apartments run large by Manhattan standards. My mom, who is 84, very happily lives in Sunnyside. She does have a rent-stabilized apartment though.
