Start thinking about phones like you think about cars. It starts to make sense then. A 2010 Honda is *basically* (and in most cases actually is) the same with exceptions to maybe an improvement or an addition. iPhones are basically the same from year to year with some improvements, however they’re often so minimal except for major leaps in processing power occasionally.

They would love do that. However that would defeat its purpose and then ultimately reduce sales. Consoles are a box for people to access games at a value with 0 hassle in contrast to PC. Imagine every time you would buy a game you would have to check which console its supported to. Then lets talk about devs. Devs would have to optimise a gazilion consoles. Ultimately choosing the latest ones which this will make the earliers ones obsolete faster.
