Anti-intellectualism has gotten so bad that people respond viscerally to any and all critical analysis: “Comparing things is ‘pitting them against each other,’ which is mean. If you think one work is better than the other, you’re saying the second work is bad and that’s mean. And if you think something I like is bad, you must think I’m bad because I am what I consume and that’s mean! Let people enjoy things!!”
