I mean, in 1984 my 14 yo self was heartbroken to learn Greg Louganis (whom I'd just met at a diving practice) was gay and forever out of my reach. Not that my 14 yo self would have *ever* had a chance with him, even if he was straight (because also um, I was 14!), so I kinda get "there's always hope" ;-)
