PSA: If you’ve seen the movie “Wicked,” and you loved it, and your kids loved it, and you’re thinking of encouraging your kids to read the book, I am begging you to read the entire book yourself *before* you give it to your kids. I’m not saying don’t let your kids read the book. I’m saying the book is different enough that you should really know exactly what’s in it before you give it to your kids to read. 1/3

幾秒內	theotherkristina	In a similar way that the original Grimm’s fairy tales are often very much darker than the Disney versions (and sometimes bear only a passing resemblance to them), the musical Wicked is not nearly as dark as the book. Take a look at the original story of “The Little Mermaid” for a much lighter example. I read the book first and thought it was incredible. But I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it on the basis of someone liking the musical, and vice versa. 2/3
2 小時內	Erik H. dragonadamant	The Gregory Maguire novel? I enjoyed the book but never saw the musical and was surprised when I heard about how family-friendly the musical was (the very adult book was most decidedly not - I'd put it on par with A Game of Thrones in terms of content advisory).

I read it before reading Wicked years ago. Reading it you can really see where Maguire blended the Judy Garland film and the original story to create the OZ universe in Wicked

Yes, movie posters are often used as book covers when they're based off a book, but when the differences are THIS different and dark, I don't think the movie poster should be used, especially considering how much they are marketing the movie to kids.

Have seen it 5 Times and would go see it again tomorrow! For me, this was one time I loved the play much more than the book!
