I know the Juan Soto contract is ridiculous, but you have to remember the Mets were coming up on being a decade away from finally getting Bobby Bonilla off the books. They got too nervous thinking about what life would be like for a new generation of fans if there wasn't a terrible contract on the books for them to celebrate each year, too.
