One year ago today, I was providing comfort care to my mother in the ER. Not a room. We spent the night in the ER. She passed on 12/9. Why were we never given a room? Because when she first went in with symptoms of a blockage, her insurance denied her being admitted. By the time they approved her, she died. The nurses were amazing. They tried to give us space to say our goodbyes. They opened an area for us away from everyone.
