People generally, whether we are ADHD or not, don't realise quite how shallow the self is. We aren't nearly as complex as we would like to think. I don't know if its unmasking, but I like to wear mismatching clothes. It feels like a small rebellion against the norm. I like to mess with the English language too. I wish I had more people around me, but have become isolated over many years.

THERAPIST: So, how've you been? ME, REFLEXIVELY MASKING: I'm good! I love this new couch! So comfy! T: So what brings you in? ME, MASKING SO HARD I GENUINELY CAN'T REMEMBER: Um... yeah, I don't really... I just... Hmm.

I’m still holding back though, with saying weird stuff, and then laughing manically. That might be a bit too unmasked for the world to handle…

Today I told my therapist that since finding out I have adhd in my 40s, I feel like my old identity is running around somewhere and I want to find her and have her tell me how I used to get things done in spite of myself. Because I'm having a major identity meltdown and it's leading to a lot of task paralysis and not recognizing myself

Or when you unmask and social media starts trying to convince you you're AUHD (struggles in dyslexia with the actual acronym). Ignorance/masking was simultaneously bliss and chaos. 🫠
