If I say the word "toque" do you know what I'm talking about? If you do, where do you live? Anytime I say "I need to grab my toque" or "it is toque weather" people look at me like I'm an idiot. While that might be true, the tiny little town I grew up in cannot be the only place that knows what that is. Raise your hand if you know what a toque is! ✋🏼

That has since evolved into ANY cold-weather knit hat, including beanies and skull caps. It evolved in meaning because that makes it easier to explain to the Americans who freak out that we use a french word AT ALL to describe something. Hell, they call Poutine "Party Fries" in the 'States... They won't even let us have POUTINE!!
