The surgeon talked to my endocrinologist, and my endocrinologist had his assistant call me with instructions to manage my diabetes care during and after surgery. Whole process from waking up with nausea to having surgery was a little less than four months. I didn't pay for any of it. My job gave me short-term disability without asking for a doctor's note and let me choose when to come back to work.
