One of my less popular notions that I will go to the mat for every time is the idea that most ‘corporate culture’ is a huge anti-pattern. It can be done well, but it’s overwhelmingly not.
In my experience, it is almost always rolled out by fiat — the execs go to some bullshit spa and come back with the stone tablets of conformity. This monoculture is then invested in, and the leadership rolls it out like they’re announcing Esperanto; an alien imprint defining what it means to belong.
