Both the RAC and AA are now big corporations with no loyalty to 'members'. We're in the AA again but we got a great deal through meeting an AA repairman once, who gave us a tip off when there was a sale about to start. Membership of one of the two IS cost-effective unless your car is exceptionally reliable.
