I live the Christmas/Hilday vibe/spirit, but I absolutely abhor the gift giving aspect. For me giving a gift is about selecting the exact right thing, something that has meaning. It’s something that can’t be done in a week. I’m aghast at how many people just buy trivial stuff for dozens of people. Seems inauthentic. I hate receiving gifts as well because now it feels like there’s a responsibility to reciprocate, and to that end, see above. Let’s just share a meal and company.
