I see the argument so often that minimum wage is for “entry level jobs.” Even if that were true, does that make those jobs less valuable/ helpful. If you believe that, I challenge you to not purchase anything from an “entry level employee.” Gonna be especially hard if you haven’t done your Christmas shopping yet…

It is for entry level jobs. Saying that doesn't make them less valuable, but it does mean ENTRY LEVEL. meaning you work them to start your life, not as a career. Or when you are rebuilding your life after bad choices like jail, divorce, dropping out, etc. What annoys people is entry level employees thinking they are victims and blaming others for their life choices. I used to tell entry levels "'if you're here in 5 yrs I'll fire you. This is not a career path. Go to school." Good advice.

I recently got laid off and have been having SO much trouble in this job market finding anything, so I took a seasonal job at a movie theater for $11.50 an hour with a bunch of teenagers. I assure you, I have NEVER worked that hard in my life, certainly not at my corporate job where I was paid twice that hourly. I felt like I could die at the end of each shift. They deserve much more than they're being paid for that work.

Less valuable than the people that budget their paycheck? Yes. It doesn’t take a financial analyst to swipe a carton of eggs across a scanner.

Worked as a cashier for a bit. Had a small child help her grandfather at self check out bag their groceries. When she got excited and said, "I'm so good at this! I want to be a cashier when I'm older." the grandpa shakes his head as if she's so naive and says, "honey you are cut out for way more than just this. Aim way higher for yourself." I stood their like -.- this is why we don't have enough registers open because too many people are entitled and proud to work at a grocery store.

If I owned a fast food restaurant or a convenience store I would NOT pay someone $40/hour to do a job that literally anyone can do. If you’re a 45 year old employee that can be replaced by a high school kid, you may want to learn a marketable skill.
