It’s because Americans have come to associate freedom with an absence of responsibility, and justice with getting their way. That is, we’ve allowed the worst of individualism to consume civic life. My liberty, my patriotism, and my lifestyle outweighs yours, ignoring that it is only the social contract of the community that can protect those shared values.

As we’ve become more affluent & social media more invasive we’ve raised offspring who are more in touch with their ‘rights’. It’s meant an erosion of repect, kindness & altruism & an increase of narcissism . I also think the rise of women’s rights have threatened many young men today. What was the point of us burning our bras and our grandmothers, mothers fighting for our daughters’ freedoms?
