Tierra means land, soil, earth. Terra is a prefix that means related to “Tierra” as in terrateniente (someone who owns land); terraplanista (those who believe that the Earth is flat); terrarium (place of land)

We use the word terra, from latin for certain things. Example: terra nulius comes from latin and means: tierra de nadie. So every time you’ll see the word terra in spanish it will be from an expresion we still use in special ocasions that comes from latin. So basically terra is the origin of tierra.
