Week two of no longer putting up numbers on the hymn boards and the church hasn’t collapsed! Between staff time taken away from actual mission-critical tasks, the fact that the hymns are listed in the worship bulletins (as they have been for like 80 years), and people complaining if a single number is wrong, we’re done! I’m sure I’ll hear word of some pearl clutching, eventually, but I also see this as a metaphor for misaligned church priorities. And I’m so over that.
