Make gauge swatches! It’ll help you figure out your tension - I’ve got high tension so when I’m making patterns I often size up my hook .5-1mm. I had an issue of my work coming out super small for a long time before I figured it out. It also made me more confident with various stitches. PLUS I have a bunch of swatches I’m going to make into an artsy blanket one day 🥰

So your starting edge curves (bows) start beginning chain with hook one size larger than pattern size. Just found this out after 50 years of crochet.
