Are there folks here who actually learned a language from zero to at least A1-A2 using Duolingo?

Not really, but I’ve used Babbel to learn Italian from scratch up to B2 and it was an awesome learning experience

I had the same question. I’m currently refreshing my Chinese (studied it for 3 years as part of my translation studies but didn’t go back to it for 10+ years) and there is no way someone with no basic knowledge could effectively learn. The exercises are super repetitive and don’t touch on the grammar part. I’m on a 150+ day streak with +- 20 mins per day and I don’t think they covered counting from 1 to 20. Or the colors.
