I spend 3 hours cooking Indian food this weekend as I had a particular food craving and there aren’t good Indian restaurants around where I live. Result after 3 hours: 1 curry and 8 chapati / roti😵‍💫 My husband(not Indian): "Indian cooking was designed to keep women in the kitchen wasn’t it?" I have to agree with him. I’m not willing to do this everyday in 2024 and I have watched my mom wake up at 5 AM to prepare breakfast for us before school and pack our lunch. Spend whole day(1/2)

chopping, cooking, cleaning to prepare 3 meals every.single.day! And men expected 3 fresh meals home prepared by their wives(including my dad). Once you got married, your in-laws expected this from the daughter in law. It is indeed a system that’s prevalent in many households even in 2024. I’m grateful that’s not my story🙈 indianfood

Me and my husband cook something everyday and we mostly have Indian food. Indian food does require care and time but if it’s taking that long, you are doing it wrong or have not learned enough to be quick at the prep work. A curry and roti would be 40 minutes to an hour and I would most likely have done raita and salad too. However, I was much slower than that when I started. So it does take some practice However I do agree that cooking has kept Indian women in the kitchen for long.

I learnt Indian cooking off the internet and it takes 40 mins max for normal curries. Of course if i want to make something fancy like butter chicken it takes 2-3 hours but that includes cleaning up and preps lol. The hardest bit for me was to fry the onions. Initially they were too burnt or undercooked. The correct brown colour was needed acc to my ex lol. I have since got better

Was it your first time cooking? Doesn't really takes 3 hours of active cooking to make a curry and chapati. You are counting the cooking time right? Just wondering.

My wife and I have pretty tight work schedules too but make it a point to cook Indian food most days of the week. But I also put in my share by helping her clean and chop stuff. I can easily cook a meal of rice, curry and chapatis in hour's time. Any time required more that warrants proper scheduling and agility.

Seems like user error. It takes 40 mins to cook from scratch roti, sabji, dal and rice. And that’s the case for most meals— chinese, mexican, italian. Unless you’re making ready to eat food. Why blame Indian food?

If you have not yet, do watch the Malayalam movie “The Great Indian Kitchen”.

You do all that which take hours , you finish eating within 15 min , then you gotta wash tons of dishes used during the process 🫠

Indian food is the best food. It’s worth it.
