Moral philosophy can’t find any way to make the numbers say anything other than..I’m being careful here…don’t wonder. You’re right. I’ve not seen a preemptive defence for moral action based on a ratio of lives saved that is close. Think how strong it’d be for “ending the hydrocarbon economy instantly”, and all the deaths from climate change just disappear at a horizon. They don’t reduce, degrees don’t go up, catastrophic climate changes don’t happen that would have otherwise. It’s that level.
