I’ve been trying to explain this to friends for a while. Art is art, design is design. I struggle with my art as I was taught from a design perspective. My art teacher used to hate it that I ‘designed’ my lines and strokes, rather than expressed.

How is that an unpopular statement? We ain’t artist we fucking designers it has its own name. Design follows some rules and has the opposite goal than art.

I am both. They are distinctly different with a lot of overlapping principles. Graphic design is visual communication for a clients needs. Art is your own expression, for yourself.

But we can be both :)

Just facts. One doesn't need to be artistic to be a designer, but sure helps a ton to be an artist as well.

That's a crap opinion. Graphic designers can't design without being artistic. To say graphic design is not art is to not understand what art is at all.
