Riding bicycles without wearing helmets.

Parents sent us to the store with a note to get their beer and cigarettes. Idk where you live but when I was a kid there was no real border btwn Mexico and California. I think they started doing checks for produce etc some time in the early 80s. People just went back and forth between California and Mexico. I think that’s really interesting.

No bike helmets.

Being home alone after school. Walking or biking to/from school alone

Walking to school without an adult, playing in the street, going outside in the sun without sunscreen, going anywhere at all without bottles of water …..

Being last home at preschool age while mom ran out to the store real quick.

Giving your children money to buy smokes for mom cause she didn't want to get out of the car. And that happened in the 90s for me

Waking to school alone.

Being dropped off at the local public pool and picked up later. Lifeguards, yes, but not a parent in sight. Every once in a while the lifeguard would blow the whistle to clear the pool to check for, I assume, drowned kids on the bottom of the pool.

Not ever wearing seatbelts, riding with 5 other kids in the back of a station wagon ,getting the strap from the principle
