A lot of the most iconic and beloved Superman stories are about just that kind of messianic tension, from John Byrne’s 80s run to Morrison’s all star Superman to the Geoff Johns stuff. Not that I think man of steel’s good, but I kinda wonder what Superman stories you do like if u don’t get what a lot of these classic stories are doing

I meeeeean it’s pretty difficult to separate the two. Clark was sent to earth by his father where he lives as a god amongst men and rather than use his powers for his own gain he deems that humanity, despite all of its ugliness is worth saving. Obviously there’s some variance depending on which story we’re talking about but there are plenty of similarities that contribute to making Superman compelling
