As an FNP for 25 years, I believe RN’s should have at least 2+ years full time work experience before admission to an NP program. Anything less is a disservice to patients & NPs

Yes!! NP of 21 years here and I have been saying this for years! You have to have documented full time bedside RN experience in a high acuity unit before NP school.

I say 5 years! I’ve been a nurse 14 and wouldn’t have been ready at 2 years. Coupled with the fact that they aren’t teaching some basic stuff in nursing school is scary. I had a Bio degree (pre-vet) before nursing school and was shocked at WASN’T taught there
