Literally because the earth is a sphere. The equator is closer to the sun than any other place on earth because it’s like a bump. The further away you are the colder it gets I thought that was common knowledge. Also the sun is constantly at an angle so most of the heat bounces off the ground. Might also be connected to our magnetic field but I’m not sure about that
